WNYC and Revson Foundation Announce the Winners of NYC Neighborhood Library Award

On his radio show this morning, WNYC's Brian Lehrer announced the winners of the first-ever NYC Neighborhood Library Award, support by the Charles H. Revson Foundation. Librarians from each of the five winning branches appeared on today's broadcast to discuss the outstanding services their libraries offer, as well as plans for the $10,000 prize each has won.

  • QPL's Corona Library
  • BPL's Macon Library
  • NYPL's New Dorp Library
  • NYPL's Seward Park Library
  • BPL's Sheepshead Bay Library

The other five finalists were presented with checks for $5,000 each:

  • NYPL's Aguilar Library
  • BPL's Kings Bay Library
  • NYPL's Parkchester Library
  • QPL's Queens Village Library
  • NYPL's Tremont Library

As the Revson Foundation's website notes, New Yorkers submitted over 4,300 nominations for local library branches. Winners were selected by a panel of esteemed judges, including R.L. Stine, author; Kurt Andersen, host of WNYC’s Studio 360; Carla Hayden, CEO of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore; Fatima Shama, NYC Commissioner of Immigrant Affairs; and Don Weisberg, President of the Penguin Young Readers Group.
