Think SIG!

Think SIG!

METRO SIGs provide diverse opportunities for collaboration, problem solving, and shared learning.

METRO currently hosts 15 unique Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to provide our members with opportunities to network and share knowledge on issues of importance to today’s information professionals.

For example, our newly revamped Lib 2.0 SIG focuses on next-generation library tools that take advantage of Web 2.0 technologies—including social networking tools, social tagging software, digital library systems, institutional repositories, subject repositories, federated search tools, and next generation OPACS. Find out more about this group and its upcoming meeting on “RSS in Libraries” on Wednesday, April 8th.

METRO’s Code4LibNYC SIG welcomes all library staff—including systems librarians, web services librarians, digital library developers, digital library managers, and others—with an interest in the coding, deployment, and design of library software, systems, and web services. Learn more about Code4LibNYC.

Our new Prison Librarian SIG is designed for librarians who work with incarcerated adults and youth, individuals interested in the library-related work being done in prisons and detention centers, and library staff who have an interest in re-entry services for ex-prisoners. Visit this SIG’s wiki page for a list of upcoming meetings and more information on its activities.

This is just a sampling of the many great SIGs sponsored by METRO. Check out our complete list and join up today.
