Update: this event has been canceled. The coordinators apologize for any inconvenience.

Street Literature: Love it or Loath it, a symposium to discuss the finer points of the urban literature genre, will take place on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Central Library of the Brooklyn Public Library from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

streelitsymposium.pngOpen to the public, this event brings together authors and experts to evaluate how we might "give voice to a sector of society that has been traditionally neglected as proper literature while also potentially perpetuating stereotypes and glorifying the underbelly of urban living."

Vanessa Irvin Morris, author of The Reader’s Advisory Guide to Street Literature, will open the symposium with a comprehensive review of street literature. Venessa's talk will be followed by a panel discussion featuring prominent street literature authors, including Wahida Clark and K’Wan.

Registration for this event is now open. For more information, please contact James Leftwich from Berkeley College 914-694-1122 x3370 or Ames O’Neill from BPL at 718-230-2409.
