Susan Benz, former Manager of Web Content and Digital Collections at the Brooklyn Public Library and member of METRO's Digitization Resources Advisory Council, began a ten-month Fulbright grant at the beginning of September. Susan is dividing her time between the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine (the largest library in the Ukraine) and the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Ukraine's leading university.
At these sites, Susan will lecture on various topics related to digital libraries and current library trends in the United States, provide consultation, and investigate Ukrainian library systems. Susan will also tour Ukraine as a guest lecturer, visiting public libraries, university libraries, and information centers.
"This is an exciting time to be in Ukraine," says Susan. "I am very interested in sharing knowledge with our colleagues and learning more about their library systems, culture, language, and politics. Ukraine is in a dramatic period of transition and the opportunity to make a positive contribution is great."
Please join us in extending best wishes to Susan as she begins this new adventure.
