This year, METRO's Annual Meeting will be held at the Fashion Institute of Technology's Katie Murphy Amphitheatre on Monday, October 17, 2011 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Join us for this important opportunity to meet with other leaders from the library community and take part in activities that you won't want to miss. There is no charge for METRO members to attend, but registration is required (see links below).
Our keynote speaker this year is ALA President-Elect, Maureen Sullivan, who will speak on "Libraries in the Larger Information Ecosystem: Anticipating Challenges and Seizing Opportunities." You will also have the opportunity to meet and hear from a staunch library advocate in the New York State Senate, Suzi Oppenheimer (37th Senate District). We will also be joined by New York City's first Chief Digital Officer, Rachel Sterne, who will discuss her 90-day report on recommendations for enhancing the city's digital operations, communications, and public-private partnerships.
Since the 1950s, the Fashion Institute of Technology has been a leader in fashion education, pioneering many degrees now offered nationally. Those attendees interested in seeing more will have an opportunity to view the unique collections that this important institution has to offer.
A tour of the Gladys Marcus Library will give attendees a chance to learn from the library staff about the services and collections offered to FIT faculty, staff, and students. Attendees may alternatively join their professional colleagues and Assistant Curator of Accessories, Colleen Hill, for a tour of the "Sporting Life" exhibit at the Museum at FIT.
A reception following the meeting will provide an opportunity to network, mingle with your friends, and meet our speakers while enjoying some light refreshments.
