RBDB Grant Information Sessions

If your library is a METRO member located in New York City or Westchester County and is considering undertaking a digitization or retrospective conversion project, you may be interested in applying for a METRO RBDB Grant. METRO awards $100,000 annually through a competitive grant process with funding from the New York State Regional Bibliographic Databases Program.

Digitization Grants are available to fund the digitization of rare and historically significant materials held by METRO member libraries*. Awards are competitive and based on criteria established by METRO's Digitization Advisory Council. Last year, $70,000 in grants were awarded to eight libraries. A full listing of funded projects and links to past digital collections is available.

Retrospective Conversion Grants are available to METRO member libraries* for the conversion of unique catalog records with high research interest. Awards are competitive and based on criteria established by METRO's Information Systems Advisory Council. Last year, $30,000 in grants were awarded to six libraries.

Applications for both Digitization and Retrospective Conversion grants will be available in late September 2006 and will be due on November 22, 2006. Awards will be announced in January 2007.

METRO will hold two Grant Information Sessions in September. METRO staff will describe the application process and answer your questions. Past grant recipients will also be present to discuss their experiences.

Grant Information Session I: September 25, 2006, 1:00-3:00 pm. METRO, 57 E. 11th Street, New York, NY.
