Jisc, a UK-based not-for-profit that researches and promotes the adoption of digital technologies in education, released a new report from ITHAKA S + R on revenue models for sustaining digital projects.
With support from the Jisc-led Strategic Content Alliance (SCA), ITHAKA S + R has developed The best revenue models and funding sources for your digital resources to support those who actively manage digital projects and who seek to develop funding models that will permit them to continue investing in their projects.
The report begins with a framework for identifying sources of funding based on a project's strengths. Later pages discuss various revenue models through case studies and short articles. Models highlighted include advertising, author/contributor payments, corporate sponsorship, freemium and membership models, licensing, purchase and pay-per-use, philanthropy, and subscriptions.
This paper is available for free download on the Jisc website.
