New METRO Special Interest Group Focuses on Distance Education and Academic Libraries

Thanks to the initiative of co-conveners P. Charles Livermore and Benjamin Turner at St. John's University, METRO is pleased to announce the creation of a new special interest group focusing on distance education and academic libraries. Here's a recent announcement from the conveners:
Interested in learning more about library services for Distance Education students and faculty? Are you willing to share your experiences or ideas? Professors Charles Livermore and Benjamin Turner from St. John’s University Libraries are launching a new Distance Education SIG at METRO, whose first event will be an open discussion on this dynamic and rapidly-growing area of library service.
Topics will include
  • Marketing library services to the DE community.
  • Providing reference and research support.
  • Developing appropriate collections.
  • Delivering effective library instruction.
  • Provision of other library services, such as document delivery.
In addition to sharing insights and experience regarding distance education, this first meeting will serve to gauge interest in particular topics, which will help lay the groundwork for DE SIG meetings over the coming year. Your participation is invaluable!
