myMETRO Monthly, March 2014: A Letter from METRO's Member Services Manager

To our myMETRO Members,

140128_2537_barnett.jpgMy inbox is full of interesting opportunities lately. On the professional research side, take a look at the new report from the Pew Research Center, "From Distant Admirers to Library Lovers - and beyond." If you're like me, perceptions about libraries are important regardless of type and this report reveals who does and does not use public libraries as well as what they think of specific services. Take a look!

Copyright is integral to our work, yet so difficult to grasp. Here's an opportunity to better understand Creative Commons (CC), coming up May 2. CC Project Manager Jane Park with give a virtual tour of CC tools and resources. This webinar is sponsored by the NY3Rs and you can register here.

While you're at the NY3Rs website learn more about New York State's service hub for the Digital Public Library of America. Through a program called the Empire State Digital Network, libraries and archives statewide can add collections to DPLA.

Lastly, let's look at some great job openings currently available. I have to put in a plug for the Ship's Librarian position at SUNY Maritime. A great way to combine work and travel. Also, Brooklyn Public Library is accepting applications for Children's and YA Librarians. And for the ambitious, a Google Policy Summer Fellowship with ALA.

Wishing you a wonderful spring,

Tom Nielsen
