The METRO Board of Trustees has launched a strategic planning initiative to optimize METRO's ability to:
- Anticipate and fulfill our members' evolving needs.
- Keep pace with the professional trends, societal issues, and technological advances influencing the way libraries do business.
- Ensure METRO's financial stability and growth over the next decade.
The yearlong strategic planning process began in May, when Cathy De Rosa, Vice President of Marketing and Library Services at the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) made a presentation to METRO's Board of Trustees on the findings of an environmental scan of libraries and library consortia. The scan provided a valuable context in which to begin conceptualizing METRO's strategic planning needs.
METRO has retained Anthony Knerr & Associates to help guide us through this process. Anthony Knerr & Associates is a respected consulting firm that assists leading nonprofit institutions in the United States and Europe in solving complex strategic issues. The firm specializes in institutional positioning and strategic transformation—issues that go to the heart of METRO's interests in initiating this strategic planning effort.
"METRO's mandate is to provide our members with responsive, meaningful services that address the technological and cultural changes that are rapidly transforming the library world," says METRO Executive Director Dottie Hiebing. "This strategic analysis will allow us to reinforce and re-envision METRO's role as a touchstone of support, services, and resources for our member organizations and the library community as a whole."
"Along with sharpening our organizational vision for the coming decade," adds Hiebing, "We're examining how best to diversify our funding base to secure the resources we need to attain this ambitious vision."
