METRO Launches New Directors Round Table Series

METRO Launches New Directors Round Table Series

On Wednesday, November 14, from 3pm – 6:30pm at the American Museum of Natural History, METRO kicks-off its first Directors Round Table. The ongoing Directors Round Table will feature guest lectures by leaders from the library, archive, and museum communities, academia, and the technology sector, and will focus on emerging trends and opportunities that impact METRO member institutions.

We are excited to launch the Directors Round Table with guest speaker Stephen Abram, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Markets at Gale Cengage. Mr. Abram blogs at Stephen’s Lighthouse and is well known for his ideas and insights on strategic thinking and innovation in libraries. Mr. Abram will be speaking on the topic “The Future: Digital/Print Library Hybrids.” Ebooks have very much been in the news lately, with the ALA and the Association of American Publishers exchanging open letters and responses, and with seemingly ever-escalating costs and complex terms of use complicating the role of ebooks in libraries. But other developments in the digital realm such as emerging learning, research, reading and collaboration technologies, open-access, and social media all have the potential to extend augment the traditional role and mission of libraries. Mr. Abram’s talk will address issues, challenges, and opportunities of the digital/print library hybrid and explore “better ways to build community or to attract new community segments.” We look forward to a dynamic talk on a topic relevant to all libraries.
