METRO Executive Director Invited to Join Two New Committees
METRO Executive Director Dottie Hiebing has been appointed to serve on two committees that tackle issues of importance to the METRO community.
The first is the New York State Librarians’ Search Committee. Under the auspices of the New York State Education Department, the Search Committee will be meeting over the summer to identify a replacement for New York State Librarian Janet Martin Welch, who recently retired. The committee is charged with completing the search by the fall.
In addition to her current position as chair of the American Library Association’s Office for Information Technology Policy Advisory Committee (a one-year term that concludes in July 2008), Ms. Hiebing has been appointed to the Subcommittee on the Future of Libraries in the 21st Century.
The OITP’s Program on America’s Libraries in the 21st Century monitors and evaluates technological and societal trends to assist the library community in planning and optimizing its future. The first meeting of the Subcommittee on the Future of Libraries in the 21st Century will take place at the 2008 ALA Annual Conference (June 26-July 2), where a program on “America’s Libraries in the 21st Century” will be held.
