METRO Delivers a Great Deal for Our Members

For most libraries, the use of commercial shipping to facilitate lending services would be a budget-breaking proposition.

Fortunately, METRO and other library consortia around the U.S. provide reliable courier services. A recent sampling of consortia across the nation revealed that METRO provides such services in a uniquely affordable way by including them at no extra charge along with the many other benefits our members receive as part of their annual membership.

By contrast, many library systems nationwide—even those that, like METRO, are state funded—charge their members for delivery services. In some cases, they also add administrative fees above and beyond their annual membership dues and delivery fees.

These findings were revealed during a recent survey to see how METRO’s delivery services measure up compared to those of other library consortia nationwide. The survey was conducted by Lori Bowen Ayre, a nationally recognized consultant on delivery services and resource-sharing. We’ve retained the services of Ms. Ayre and her consulting company, The Galecia Group, as part of our ongoing quest to optimize our delivery services.

Since METRO never charges its members for our reliable and convenient delivery services, we know we’re providing an excellent return on your membership dollars. But that doesn’t mean we’re resting on our laurels. We’re always looking to improve, and we hope you’ll share your ideas with us by contacting METRO’s Special Projects Manager Robert Schmidt at
