METRO has recently added 14 digital collections to NewYorkHeritage.org, a project of the NY 3Rs Association. NewYorkHeritage.org is a portal into more than 170 digital collections from around the state, contributed by libraries, archives, museums, and other cultural institutions.

METRO’s contributions to the collaborative project consist of collections from Queens College, Brooklyn Public Library, CUNY Graduate Center, Yeshiva University, Brooklyn College, SUNY Maritime College, Lehman College, and METRO itself.

These collections contain more than 3,000 items, including Brooklyn Democratic Party Scrapbooks, Fulton Street Trading Cards, Waterways of New York, and much more. Included are photographs, postcards, correspondence, manuscripts, oral histories, yearbooks, newspapers, and other materials.

NewYorkHeritage.org is continuously enhanced through the addition of new content and contributing institutions to reach the ultimate goal of connecting 1,000 collections and one million items from across the state.

Participants in this initiative use OCLC’s CONTENTdm Multisite Server to bring their collections together, allowing the public to search across all items simultaneously. Institutions that use CONTENTdm and wish to explore the possibility of joining this exciting initiative are encouraged to contact METRO’s Emerging Technologies Manager, Jason Kucsma, at: jkucsma@metro.org .
