METRO Announces Two Grant Opportunities

METRO’s 2009 digitization and retrospective conversion grant applications have recently been issued, and we encourage our members to consider applying in one or both areas.

Digitization Grants
For the fifth year in a row, METRO will award grants to selected member libraries to support their unique digitization initiatives. The grants range from $5,000-$10,000. The purpose of the funding is to facilitate the conversion of significant non-digital materials to digital format, thereby enhancing the quality of the region’s library information resources. METRO member institutions located in New York City and Westchester County are eligible to apply. Funding is open to all types of materials including text, photographs, postcards, maps, newspapers, two- and three-dimensional objects, audio, video, etc. Applications are due by 2 p.m. on November 25, 2008.

Retrospective Conversion Grants
METRO will award Retrospective Conversion Regional Bibliographic Database Grants to assist our member libraries in upgrading unique printed bibliographic records into machine-readable MARC records. Applications are due by 2 p.m. on November 25, 2008.
