METRO Announces Partnership with Library Juice Academy

The Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) is excited to announce a new partnership with Library Juice Academy (LJA), a division of Litwin Books that is dedicated to providing online professional development for librarians. Through this partnership, METRO members will receive discounted tuition for LJA workshops and webinars, and the two organizations will work together to address key professional development needs for librarians in the future.

Launched in fall of 2012, Library Juice Academy is dedicated to continuing education for librarians and library staff. The academy provides asynchronous online professional development workshops on subjects including next generation cataloging, information management, copyright and fair use, and library instruction, to name a few.

Starting this month, METRO members will receive a 25% discount on LJA courses and webinars when they use the code METRO during registration. In addition, METRO will provide scholarships for METRO members to participate in one four-week course and one two-week course each month. Details of the scholarship program can be found on the METRO site.

“At a time when the library landscape is changing rapidly, it’s more important than ever for professionals to keep their skills current and build on them constantly,” says METRO’s Executive Director, Jason Kucsma. “I’m impressed with Library Juice Academy’s ability to fill an important gap in the professional development ecosystem for libraries, and I’m excited to be able to make it easier for our members to take advantage of these opportunities.”

Rory Litwin, President and Founder of Litwin Books, stated, “We feel that creative partnerships like this one are the best way to find new directions for expansion and experimentation. I look forward to working with METRO members who participate in our workshops.”
