By Laura Forshay, Professional Development Manager, METRO
This fall, we are pleased to launch the METRO Leadership Lab -- a new initiative that fosters the growth of current and future library leaders. The program brings together a small, like-minded group of working information professionals who are motivated to develop their own leadership potential. Participants will complete the lab with strategies on how to transform their potential into usable skills, and with a network of innovating thinkers for project support and collaboration.
Over the course of six weeks, participants will engage in five group sessions and two individual coaching sessions with coach and consultant, Kimberly Sweetman. A nationally-recognized writer, educator, and conference speaker, Kimberly has over two decades of experience in library management, including planning two successful major library renovations, executing several major customer service initiatives, and managing multiple large-scale projects. She instructs groups regularly on topics ranging from managing change to successful communication.
During the approximately 60-minute sessions, participants will pinpoint specific areas for growth, strategize next steps, and take action to improve their skills and abilities. The group environment will provide a diversity of perspectives and experience to support collective development. Individual sessions will allow time for more personalized feedback and guidance from a trained leadership coach.
Participation is offered at no cost for this inaugural cohort. Two groups of five individuals will be selected after submitting a short online application.
Individual coaching sessions will be scheduled with Kimberly once applicants have been selected. Group coaching sessions are scheduled to take place on:
Group 1 (Thursday mornings, 9:00 AM)
- November 6, 2014
- November 13, 2014

Items to Note:
All communication will be virtual, with coaching sessions taking place over Skype and/or Google Hangout. Applicants should be prepared to participate from their homes or offices with the necessary technology. Confidentiality and participation are essential in creating a supportive group atmosphere. Applicants should plan to be available for and involved in each scheduled session.
