Columbia University Libraries and Columbia University’s Center for Contemporary Black History have received a grant for $149,100 from the Ford Foundation to further develop The Amistad Digital Resource for Teachers.

This unique multimedia resource combines hundreds of rare and iconic photographs, audio recordings, film clips, and excerpts of oral history interviews with a descriptive narrative text explaining significant themes and key events in African-American history, from slavery to the twenty-first century. The Amistad Digital Resource enhances teachers’ ability to teach African-American history as a fundamental part of the overall narrative of the United States.
